Romans 8:15
"For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father." This is the Spirit of sonship, the spirit that cries out for the glory of God. This is a released spirit. This is not a bound spirit. How many times we feel that we are restricted or bound in a sense, in the lack of freedom in prayer. That is where the devil wants to keep us. You know you suffer from some fear. It may not be a tangible or reasonable fear. But it hampers your freedom. When we are not free in the spirit, how can we do great things for God? Any great work of God must come out of the Spirit of God, crying, "Abba Father." That was Jesus’ prayer. Jesus said, "Here I come to do Thy will, O LORD." That is the spirit that God puts within us. Sometimes people are very afraid of doing God’s will. God’s will is something very fearful and painful to them. There is truly great profit in doing God’s will. Our mind reckons in terms of profit and loss. There is a great blessing and profit in doing God’s will. Once you become addicted to obeying God’s will, you will be free from doing your own will. You will even be afraid of doing you own will. You are careful to test: sometimes, somewhere, you may act presumptuously not doing God’s will but your own. This will be your great fear. That is a positive fear. It is a health-giving fear. It is the fear of God. You cry out, "God I do not want to miss Your will in my life. If I miss it I will wander, I will lose my life." The Spirit of God crying Abba Father leads us to do His will. Verse 16, "The spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God". Verse 14, "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." Is that not wonderful? Those that are led by the Spirit of God.
I see many people greatly exercised over a decision. But finally they do their own will. They talk about God’s will, pray about it, they consult others and take their time too, but in the end they do their own will. Some are unable to be led by God’s servants. Something in them does not engage the teeth of the wheel. We are now getting very busy in the Fellowship. This is a dangerous zone. We have entered it not by our choice. In sixty or seventy places, meetings are going to be held in this month and the next. Last three weeks have seen large scale meetings. All these meetings will culminate in the retreat. We are going to be very careful this year about whom we are going to admit. Those people who have made their choices and are set in their full ways have very limited potential. We should be like Moses who started at eighty years and remained strong till 120 and was set to act at God’s bidding. How wonderful! I wish all of us could be like that. "As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." Verse 17, "And if children, then heirs: heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together."
The talk is now about elections. Suppose our brother Solomon is going to win in the next election and become the Prime Minister or President we would rejoice. What does the Bible say? It says, "You and I are Joint-heirs with Jesus Christ." Is that a small thing? In the early days of this Fellowship, everyone wanted to go forward in spirit. Everyone wanted deep prayer-life. Everyone wanted to see greater things. That was just the normal thing. But no we are satisfied with the mediocre. If certain people seem to be longing for deeper things they express it in physical energy. You cannot progress, press forward, just by the physical thrust. If your heart is right with God, there will be a spiritual thrust and the Spirit of God will carry you forward. Correct guidances will come—not confusing guidances. I am somewhat alarmed. I have become so busy. I wonder how much of God’s will I am missing? How much of my leading is according to the mind of God? I was encouraged by what a brother told me recently. He had to travel to speak at some meetings. I had asked him to go by Express train. Suddenly, I called him that afternoon and said, "Change your ticket and go by the passenger train." He just obeyed. Of course he could not understand the rationale behind what I said. When the train reached a certain area, he saw the Express train was derailed and all the people in it were shaken up. They were all rushing into his train. He was comfortably lying on the top berth. Even in little things, we should be led by God. Are we blundering around, because of the pressures today? This is a big question to me. This is a sad question. Are we still crying out, "Abba Father, the glory I am bringing to You is too small. I am not being led by Your Spirit in every little thing." I Let us get back to the place which God has set for us.
